Fat freezing

Everything you need to know about Cryolipolysis

With cosmetic treatments gaining popularity, everyone has heard of cryolipolysis. The cosmetic industry is relatively risky, and everyone should read about any procedure before choosing treatments. Fat freezing is a technique that helps people lose fat by freezing and destroying adipose tissue cells.

How does Cryolipolysis work?

Cryolipolysis uses coolants to freeze and disrupt the cellular functions of fat tissues, leading to their destruction. The procedure is relatively simple and less invasive and removes fat cells from your body. The fat cells are then processed and used for other applications, such as filling in wrinkles or reducing cellulite on the skin.

The procedure can work on any area of your body, including the arms, abdomen, flanks (love handles), inner thighs and back of knees.

Is Cryolipolysis safe?

Cryolipolysis is a safe procedure. The fat cells will be frozen and die off over time, but this process can take up to 6 months.

When you freeze fat cells, they release inflammatory chemicals that can cause redness and swelling at the treatment site. It is usual for some bruising to occur after your treatment, but if it persists for more than a week or becomes painful, contact your doctor immediately.

Because Cryolipolysis is not a weight loss treatment, there are no restrictions on what you eat before or after your treatment—just follow your usual diet as much as possible! You may notice some swelling around the area where you had your treatment right after it happened, depending on how much fluid entered each treatment area (the average amount of fluid used during one session is 0.5 litres).

How long does the procedure take?

It depends on the area treated and whether or not you have loose skin. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the size, the number of passes and the sessions required. Generally speaking, your first session will be longer because there is more fat to be removed, and if you’re doing it in conjunction with a tummy tuck, the surgeon must have plenty of time to perform both procedures together.

What does the procedure feel like?

You may experience some mild swelling, redness or numbness in the area treated. In general, patients who receive treatment on the abdomen or inner thigh areas report minimal discomfort during and after treatment.

Patients undergoing Fat freezing can resume their normal daily activities immediately following treatment without any downtime. For best results, you must wear loose-fitting clothing for 24 hours post-procedure (no tight jeans). You should not exercise vigorously or eat a heavy meal before your appointment.

What will happen during the consultation?

The consultation is an integral part of the Cryolipolysis procedure. It allows your doctor to evaluate your health and ensure that Cryolipolysis is right for you. During this phase, your doctor will:

  • Examine your body to determine where there’s excess fat (or where you want to target).
  • Ask about any medical conditions that could affect how well the treatment works and whether there are any medications or supplements you’re taking that might affect it.
  • Discuss expectations, so everyone understands what will happen during and after treatment.

How long will it take to see the results of the procedure?

  • Results are visible within 3–6 months.
  • The treatment area will be visibly smoother after 3–6 months of treatment.
  • In three to six weeks, you should see a decrease in the appearance of fat under your skin and a general improvement in texture and tone.

What to Consider while Choosing a Cryolipolysis Procedure

To choose the best option for yourself, you need to consider a few things. Firstly, where is your fat located? Do you want to remove some or all of this fat layer, and what will be the best way to do that?

Secondly, how much do you want to spend on such a procedure? Many clinics are offering different types of fat-freezing treatments at different prices. You should only go through a procedure that fits into your budget and get it done in a clinic with a good reputation.
